About CDC:
CDC’s Center, Institute, and Offices (CIOs) allow the agency to be more responsive and effective when dealing with public health concerns. Each group implements CDC’s response in their areas of expertise, while also providing intra-agency support and resource-sharing for cross-cutting issues and specific health threats.

Detail:
The Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) is a 2-year applied fellowship for professionals with a master’s or higher degree. We train professionals to apply information science and technology to the practice of public health.

Eligibility: To apply for PHIFP, you must:
1. Meet both the educational and professional requirements
2. Be willing to commit to a 2-year full-time program
3. Be willing to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia

Educational Requirements: A doctoral (PhD, MD) or masters level degree is required. Qualifying degree must be from an accredited academic institution in one of the following:
1. Public health, medicine, health care, health-services research
2. Computer science, information science, information systems
3. Statistics
4. Epidemiology
5. Public health informatics or related discipline

Professional Requirements: Documented 1-year experience for doctoral level candidates and 3-year experience for masters level candidates is required in one of the following fields:
1. Public health informatics
2. Health informatics or related field
3. Information systems
4. Information science
5. Computer science
6. Information technology

Additionally, documented 1-year experience for doctoral level candidates and 3-year experience for masters level candidates is required in one of the following areas:
1. Public health
2. Related healthcare profession (medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, dentistry, allied health professions)

Research Requirements:
Documented experience in performing research or evaluation during or after academic training (e.g., publication, thesis, poster presentation, research/evaluation proposal).

Citizenship:
U.S. citizenship is not required. Non-U.S. citizens are permitted to apply, but must meet the visa and immigration requirements. Citizens of countries that have been determined by the U.S. Secretary of State to be State Sponsors of Terrorism will not be able to get security clearance to work at CDC and should not apply to the Program. Countries currently on this list include: Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Sudan.
