Executive MBA Programme Scholarship for Women

The Executive MBA programme office is delighted to offer scholarship support for the September 2009 (SEMBA2011) for the female participant who has best demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to support the ongoing success of the Executive MBA programme. This substantial scholarship of up to £23,850 (the final award to be determined at the review stage) will be deducted from the balance of the first year tuition fees for the programme.

Who is eligible?
Women who have been accepted for SEMBA 2011 and who are fully self-funding. Candidates may submit a scholarship application at the time of submitting their EMBA application, however essays will only be considered for the award if candidates have been offered and have accepted their place on the programme by the scholarship deadline.

Criteria for awarding the scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to an appropriate female candidate on the basis of future professional and leadership potential as demonstrated by the quality of the essay submitted in support of the scholarship application, and a proven track record of success, (i.e. educational and professional background) demonstrated at the EMBA application and interview stages. The Scholarship Committee will also consider the original and personal contribution to the ongoing success of the Executive MBA expressed through the essay and to which the scholarship winner will commit as an ambassador of the EMBA programme.

Judging panel
The judging panel is made up of members of the Admissions Committee and includes representatives from the Sloan and Executive MBA Admissions, Marketing and Programme Management Teams, Faculty and Career Services.

How to apply
You must submit the following documents:

  • Completed scholarship application form
  • A short essay of not more than 1,000 words (please supply the word count) in support of your application for the scholarship award.

The topic of the essay is:
‘As a female leader, please outline how you will personally support the ongoing success of the EMBA programme’.

Deadline for submission
We must receive your scholarship application before 12 noon on Monday 13 July 2009. The decision will be communicated to applicants by 17.00 on Friday 17 July 2009.

Candidates will need to have their funding in place and make all the necessary payments as outlined in the fee schedule. The full amount of the award will be deducted from the balance of the first year tuition fees for the programme.

Peace and security women fellowships in Africa

The Conflict, Security and Development Group (CSDG) at King’s College London together with the Africa Leadership Centre (ALC), is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Peace and Security Fellowships for African Women for 2009/2010. These Fellowships1 are intellectual and financial awards for personal, professional and academic achievements, as well as the recognition of future potential.From October 2009, the Peace and Security Fellowships for African Women will be delivered by CSDG and the ALC, which is a partnership of King’s College London and Kenyatta University, Nairobi.
The ALC aims to build a new community of leaders generating cutting edge knowledge on peace, security and development.

The Fellowships bring together African women in the early stages of their careers to undertake a carefully designed training programme in conflict, security and development. This training is followed by an attachment to an African regional organisation or a Centre of Excellence to acquire practical experience in the field of peace and security. It is intended that this project will train African women to develop a better understanding of African peace and security issues in order to increase their participation in conflict management processes and other areas of security concerns for Africans.

Eligibility Requirements:

    Applicants should:

  • Be female citizens of an African country, with valid travel documents.
  • Have knowledge of, or experience of women’s rights, gender and development issues.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to contribute to work on peace and security in Africa
  • Demonstrate commitment to the core values of the programme and the Africa Leadership Centre.
  • Must have a relevant organisational base and be endorsed by an organisation with which they have been involved for at least two years. Exceptional candidates without such organisational ties will be given special consideration.
  • Have a demonstrable plan for how to utilise knowledge gained in the Fellowship upon return to their countries and organisations.
  • Hold a Master’s degree or Bachelors with an equivalent level of professional experience.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English.

[Norway] Ph.D. position on Process Analytical Technology

Ph.D. position on Process Analytical Technology
Telemark University College currently enrols about 5000 students and employs about 500 employees. The university college has four faculties and the teaching and research activities are located at campuses in Bø, Notodden, Porsgrunn and Rauland. The university college administration is located at Porsgrunn.

Process Analytical Technologies: acoustic chemometrics, multivariate image analysis and representative sampling for improved industrial process control

The Faculty employs a staff of 70. The position is associated with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Cybernetic, and the immediate superior is the Head of the Department. The place of employment is Porsgrunn.

Current activities at the Faculty of Technology are a.o. directed towards extending the scope of Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) to a broader range of processing and manufacturing sectors, with a particular focus on particle-processing and bio-mass conversion industries. The Ph.D. study focuses on three modalities not yet fully exploited in PAT, individually or in more powerful combinations:

  • Acoustic chemometrics [AC]
  • Representative process sampling [Theory of Sampling, TOS]
  • Multivariate image analysis [MIA, AMT, and MIR]

These emerging modalities will be applied in feasibility studies on selected industrial processes - in TUC’s own process technological equipment laboratories, with pilot-plant or full scale-up applications in selected collaborating industries.

It is a requirement that the person appointed to the position will enter a doctoral degree programme in Process, Energy, and Automation Engineering. Candidates should have a Master of Science or Master of Technology degree, or the equivalent, in areas such as chemometrics, chemical engineering, process technology, cybernetics or applied statistics.

The appointment term is for a period of 3 years.

Scholarships & Loans Tuition Waivers
SDA Bocconi School of Management is making available maximum 4 total (100%) or 8 partial (50%) tuition fee waivers to 2009/2010 candidates with an outstanding profile. Besides excellent credentials, candidates from specific geographical areas (Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Central and South America) will be considered with special attention during the assignment procedure.

The assignment criteria of total or partial tuition waivers are defined and acknowledged by a special Commission whose decision is final and will be notified to beneficiaries in correspondence to the 2 application deadlines (15th February and 15th July 2009).

    [England] Charles J Mauro International Undergraduate Scholarship

    One undergraduate scholarship will be offered to a student from the United States of America for undergraduate study in Economics or Business Studies. The scholarship will be worth £1,000 per year and will be tenable for the duration of the programme of study.

    Eligibility

    The scholarship is competitive and will be awarded to a citizen from the USA who is accepted for admission on a full-time basis for an undergraduate programme in either Economics or Business Studies.

    The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit.

    The scholarship is not available to students already on programme.

    Applicants should have applied through UCAS, should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
