FINLAND; Graduate Students Scholarship 2010

Up to two positions are now available for highly motivated researchers at either postdoctoral or graduate student levels to join an international team investigating cellular signalling mechanisms in disease and degeneration.
Projects currently available include:

i) Development of light-regulatable scaffolds to manipulate intracellular signalling;
ii) Regulation and roles of small G proteins in response to neurotransmitter stimulation;
iii) Adaptor protein interactions regulating signalling in neuronal systems.
Our lab is particularly interested in upstream mechanisms regulating stress-activated MAP kinases in degenerative processes and use a combination of molecular biology and biochemistry methods together with facilities for live-cell imaging (www.uku.fi/aivi/muic/), in particular HCA and TIRF microscopy for high-throughput and high resolution imaging respectively, to support these projects. Experience with cell signalling, primary neuronal culture and live-cell imaging is highly desirable.
The work will be carried out at the Biocentre in Kuopio, set in the Finnish lake district (www.uku.fi/aivi/). The positions are available from 1 January 2010 at the earliest. Applicants will be considered until the positions are filled. For further details, see www.uku.fi/aivi/neuro/research_signalling.shtml
