PhD Studentship Theoretical Physics of Graphitic Materials and Thermoelectrics in 2010 in USA

About The University:
Our group is engaged in various problems related to theoretical modeling and description of structural, functional, and nanoscale materials and devices. We pursue two complementary routes. On the one hand, analytical techniques based on quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics, and many-body theory, are being developed. On the other hand, first principle density functional theory and tight binding models on high-performance supercomputers are being utilized.

Detail:
The group of Prof. L.M. Woods is looking for PhD graduate students interested in pursuing their degree in theoretical condensed matter and/or materials physics. Our group is involved in a variety of interdisciplinary problems exploring the interplay between electronic structure, optical, and thermoelectric properties in complex materials and related devices.

Eligibility:
In particular, we are interested graphitic nanostructures, their devices, and thermoelectrics. The interdisciplinary projects we are investigating will unable students to gain a solid background in analytical and computational skills to conduct cutting edge research.

Application deadline: Sep 15 (Wed), 2010

Note: Interested students may contact Prof. L.M. Woods and send a CV at lmwoods[at]usf.edu.
