PhD Positions 2011 in Multimedia and Geometry at Utrecht University, Netherlands

PhD Positions 2011 in Multimedia and Geometry at Utrecht University, Netherlands

Research Position in Doctorate in the field of Multimedia and Geometry at Utrecht University in Netherlands-2011

The research involves the design and analysis of methods for trajectories of objects moving in 2- or 3-dimensional space. A proper definition of a “median trajectory” based on a collection of trajectories is sought, as well as efficient algorithms for computing such a median. The definition and algorithms should be robust when noise or outliers are present. The research continues by investigating how median trajectories can be used in various applications. These include trajectory collection visualization, trajectory clustering, classification, and related problems, for which efficient algorithms and implementations should be developed. This will be done in collaboration with researchers in these application areas, whose data will be used.

The department of Information and Computing Sciences actively takes part in this dynamic and fast evolving world. We are on the edge of research and educate enthusiastic students to become thorough professionals in these fields. The Maria Pia Gratton International Award at the University of Illinois was established by the family and friends of Maria Pia Gratton. Pia passed away on October 31, 1995, at the age of 47. When she came to the United States, Pia had two small children, a degree in math, and little grasp of the English language. Pia enrolled in classes to learn English and computer programming, and with determination she made a home for her family, developed close friendships and began a career in her new country. Those who knew Pia knew her to be a beautiful woman, a caring mother, a loving wife, a dependable co-worker, a true friend, a conscientious student, a patient teacher, and a daring traveler. This award continues Pia’s memory with a living tribute to her life.

Who is eligible to apply for the Gratton Award?
