PhD Scholarships in Physics and Chemistry of Complex Systems, Syddansk Universitet, Denmark
One to two PhD mobility scholarships at the Department of Physics and Chemistry are available as of 1 November 2010 or earlier.

The mobility scholarships may be sought by students, either with or without a previous Master's degree, who wish to obtain a PhD degree, who have not taken their exams at the University of Southern Denmark, and who have agreed on a PhD project with a supervisor employed at the Department of Physics and Chemistry. Part-financed scholarships are also available if the supervisor (or student) is able to co-finance the scholarship.

The PhD programme at the Faculty of Science can be completed as a three-year study with a previous Master’s degree or as a four-year study without a previous Master’s degree. Applicants without a relevant Master's degree must have passed a minimum of 240 ECTS-points (Bachelor’s degree plus one year (60 ECTS-points) of graduate study).

The Department of Physics and Chemistry employs 36 tenure researchers covering a wide scientific area from physics to chemistry within which the department has several cross-disciplinary activities.

Applications including project proposals within the above mentioned title formulated in cooperation with a supervisor from the department are welcome. The title Physics and Chemistry Complex systems is to be understood as areas of research where complexity demands an interdisciplinary approach.

The applications are evaluated based on a number of criteria including the quality of the applicant (publications, grades, references etc.) and the quality of the project considering the strategic research areas of the department.

Please note that before submitting an application you must have defined and agreed to a PhD project together with a supervisor at the Department of Physics and Chemistry.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three or four years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
