PhD Scholarship in Applied Digital Image Cytometry, Syddansk Universitet, Denmark
A PhD scholarship in applied digital image cytometry is available in the group of Associate Professor Dr Daniel Wüstner, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. The position is to be filled by 15 October, 2010 or soon thereafter.

We are seeking a candidate interested in characterization of intracellular transport of proteins and lipids using quantitative fluorescence microscopy and computational image data analysis. The project aims at development and implementation of new algorithms for automated analysis of quantitative fluorescence imaging data to characterize protein-sterol interactions and transport in living cells.

The scholarship is available to students with a Master or equivalent academic degree within bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or related subjects. A suitable candidate could be a bioinformatician with good skills in Java- or MatLab-based image analysis, statistics and modelling of cellular processes and interest in experimental data generation. Alternatively, students with formal training in cell biology and strong interest in computational aspects of this field are welcome to apply. The applicant will be enrolled at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark.

Application, salary, etc.:

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
