Frederick Douglass Scholarship Program- American University, USA

Scholarship Introduction:
Established in 1968, the American University Frederick Douglass Scholarship Program is designed to promote educational access and opportunity and to enhance educational diversity. The scholarship provides for full or partial tuition awards renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, provided scholars satisfy the academic performance requirements. Frederick Douglass scholars are selected on the basis of high academic achievement, leadership potential, demonstrated community service, and impressive co curricular involvement. Since its inception, approximately 1,500 students have attended the university as Frederick Douglass Scholars.

Eligibility for scholarship:
Preference will be given to first-generation students, students with high financial need and/or students from public high schools. In addition, priority consideration will be given to such students from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
Nominees must also:

Have at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Rank in the top half of their class
Have satisfactory SAT or ACT scores
Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States

Important dates:

If you are applying as an Early Decision student and also intend to apply for need-based financial aid, you will need to complete the CSS/Financial Aid Profile (Profile), which can be completed on the College Board’s Web site.
The Profile should be submitted preferably by November 15. Early Decision Applicants should also fill out the FAFSA and submit it by February 15.

Regular Decision Freshman Applicants
All freshman applicants must submit the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid Profile by February 15.

Transfer Applicants
All transfer applicants must submit the CSS/Financial Aid Profile by March 1.

Current (Continuing) AU Students
All continuing students must submit the FAFSA by March 1.
