Germany : Research fellow Drought tolerance of Mediterranean oaks

The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) is a new interdisciplinary institute with the mission to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change on the organism level. It has been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and others partners. The Centre is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). It provides a new, dynamic research environment that integrates a variety of disciplines from both natural and social sciences. Research fellow Drought tolerance of Mediterranean oaks Project C1.1 [Ref. #C06c]

The successful applicant will investigate the physiological effects of drought (both natural and experimentally applied) on the photosynthetic apparatus of Mediterranean and Central European oak species.
The applicant must hold an earned diploma or masters degree in biology, and have a strong background in plant physiology, preferentially in tree physiology or photosynthesis research, and in plant molecular biology. For non-German applicants, good written and oral communication skills in English and the willingness to learn at least basic German are required. The project is suitable for the preparation of a PhD thesis.
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 50%).

The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially be restricted to 30.06.2011. An extension of the contract is planned and dependent on the applicant´s performance and on the approval of the prolongation application of BiK-F by the state of Hesse. The duty station will be at the Institute for Ecology, Evolution and Diversity of the University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The employer is the Senckenberg Gesellschaft fuer Naturforschung.
