Denmark : Postdoc in Human Locomotor Control

Job description:
The position is available from 1 November 2010 to 31 October 2012 (or soon hereafter) with the possibility of extension depending on available funding.

Research areas will be within investigation of multi-sensory control strategies for locomotion using a state-of-the-art virtual reality system, split belt treadmill as well as mechanical actuator systems. Investigations will also concern the contributions of visual, vestibular and proprioceptive information to the control of locomotion in both healthy and diseased populations.

The Postdoc will join the Neural Engineering and Neurophysiology of Movement Group within the Center for Sensory-Motor Interaction at the Department of Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University. Currently the group consists of 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professors, 8 Post-doctoral fellows and 15 PhD students. The group conducts research in eight laboratories that comprise state-of-the-art facilities for animal, human and clinical experiments as well as unique instrumentation and methodologies developed by the group.

Applicants will have successfully completed a PhD, and experience with human experimental studies, movement analysis, software programming and signal processing is expected. Knowledge of virtual reality systems and neurophysiological assessment techniques is an advantage. Applicants should have an established record of experience conducting experiments with human subjects and dissemination through peer-reviewed publications.

Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multi-disciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology. The department has 155 employees and is responsible for more than 500 master students within Biomedical Engineering, Health Informatics, Medicine with Industrial Specialization, Clinical Science and Technology and Sports Science. More than 60 Ph.D. students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department. Qualification requirements:
Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Appointment to Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment to Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at the same institution (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however max. six years at Assistant Professor level at Aalborg University).
