PhD position ? ?NanoBITS ? Exchangeable and Customizable Scanning Probe Tips?,Denmark

An international research project is being established in collaboration between the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology(DTU Nanotech) and a range of european companies and academic partners. The aim is to develop a new, highly flexible type of scanning probe tips for advanced microscopy, where the tip morphology can be accurately shaped to match the application and the tip is assembled by nanomanipulation. The long term perspective is to improve characterization of devices in the semiconductor and photonics industry.
The Ph.D. will be associated with the Nanointegration group at the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology at the Technical University of Denmark. We are a dynamic research team, doing research in integration of nanomaterials and nanostructures with silicon microfabrication, engineering of nanomaterials (particular carbon based such as graphene and nanotubes), and development of advanced metrology tools and nanomanipulation/nanorobotics devices, such as microgrippers. We are part of NSE – Nanosystems Engineering – a multidisciplinary nanotech section with strong activities in bio-, chemical and physical sensors and metrology.
Qualifications:
The ideal applicant is an engineer or Master of Science, has an educational background in physics, mechanical engineering and/or microfabrication and a strong interest in working experimentally and in an international environment. Relevant experiences include: characterization by TEM, SEM and AFM, conventional silicon microfabrication in a cleanroom, materials science, nanolithography such as focused ion beam milling and electron beam lithography, finite element calculations of mechanical structures.
