[England] PhD Studentships-Scholarships at LANCS Initiative

A total of 35 funded PhD positions will be available from 2009-2013 in four U.K. universities: LAncaster, Nottingham, Cardiff and Southampton (LANCS).

The U.K.'s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has awarded the LANCS initiative grants to a total of 5.4 million GBP to support the development of research capacity in Operational Research (OR) at these four collaborating universities. This, together with additional support coming from the universities themselves, means that during the period 2008-2013, a 13 million GBP investment will be made.

The principal aim of LANCS is to strengthen and grow theoretical OR in the UK with a particular emphasis on deepening our theoretical understanding of complex and uncertain real world problem solving environments. The initiative focuses on six different research themes: green logistics, healthcare, transport, discrete and nonlinear optimisation, heuristic understanding and systems to build systems. LANCS will also undertake an ambitious and far reaching collaborative research programme of industrial, scientific and public outreach to generate maximum academic, commercial and social impact.

Full funding and fee grants that come from the participant universities individually will be available to the students. The grants might vary depending on the qualifications of an applicant. The required background and further details for each applicant will be announced with each available position separately by the relevant university.

Please become a member of the announcement mailing list: lancs-announce@ cs.nott.ac. uk to follow the available studentships and refer to the LANCS initiative web-site for more details.
