Goldsmiths’ Department of Music, University of London, has a lively and varied research base, large postgraduate community, active performing tradition, and offers proximity to London’s resources.
The Department of Music’s research is focussed in three overarching areas:
The study of music and contemporary culture across a range of genres/contexts, and the intersections between them
Composition and creative practice, particularly in relation to music, other media, and technology, which offer a unifying thread to practice-based research
Interdisciplinary and computational musicology, both in core areas of the field and in evolving newer research areas and methodologies
The department is able to offer a scholarship for doctoral research to full-time study only, from October 2010 or January 2011. The scholarship is available for Home / EU and international students. Fees will be waived, and students also carries an annual stipend of £ 13,590 for three years. Students must complete their thesis within this period, and the award holder will also undertake a small amount of teaching in the department, as part of the conditions of the award. Prize must be compatible with a research project that complements and contributes to a research degree established in the department. Your application must be made using the application form Normal University. The application must include a statement of up to 2,000 words explaining your research project, and how you see that it is appropriate in the profile of the Department’s investigation. You must submit your request to the College in the normal way, but is encouraged to send a copy to Kim Mulhall, Senior Department Administrator. Applications must be received by 9 August and must be clearly marked “Music 2010 doctoral scholarshipâ€. Interviews will be held during the week of Aug. 23, and the successful candidate will be informed by 30 August.
