Sweden:PhD Student in Aerodynamic Shape Optimization

The Department of Applied Mechanics and its six divisions conduct research in the areas of vehicle design and mechanical engineering. The research is often carried out together with national and international academic and industrial partners, and it concerns both fundamental and applied problems. This position is placed within the Division of Fluid Dynamics.
Job description
The potential candidate will work with development of a new automatic and robust shape optimization tool for flow applications in ground vehicles such as busses and trucks. Different approaches such as black box optimization, optimization using adjoint CFD methods and topological optimization will be studied. As the project aims to develop a new numerical tool that is not dependent on commercial software, you will use open source software and the project will contain large amount of programming. First applications will be related to internal flows.

As a doctoral student you will, in addition to your own research, take part in the teaching of the division, as well as take courses as part of your own education to a researcher.
Required qualifications
We expect the candidate to have a background in CFD. A suitable background is a M.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent education.
Application procedure
The application shall be written in English and include the following items:
An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents
Curriculum Vitae
Letters of recommendation and name of reference persons (optional)
The application shall be sent electronically as pdf or zipped documents. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form.
