The British Council offers The JSPS Summer Programme for the 2010 Summer session to UK Graduate and PhD Students in Japan

The first week of the programme is dedicated to an orientation session on Japanese language, culture and research systems conducted by the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI). Internships or cooperative research opportunities are then provided at scientific research institutions such as university laboratories.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have UK nationality, citizenship, or permanent residence and be of graduate student status (MA or PhD) or recent PhD holders.
Applicants must receive advance acceptance from their host researchers.
Students with American, French, German or Canadian nationalities studying at UK universities should apply for the programme through National Science Foundation, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, and Canadian Embassy in Japan respectively.

Program Details:

Maintenance allowance: ¥534,000 (JSPS will cover the following expenses separately from the allowance: hotel room charges at Narita and Tokyo, and meals and accommodation charges at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies.) Domestic Research Trip Allowance: ¥58,500
