The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers The Chateaubriand Fellowships to Candidates pursuing a Ph.D. in the Humanities or Social Sciences for the academic year 2010/11 in France

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers Chateaubriand Scholarships for research in France on French literature, cinema, the humanities, the arts, history, philosophy, political sciences. It also offers scholarships for research in science and technology to conduct research in a French laboratory.
Fellowship Details:
  • Allowances of about €1300 a month, plus a “book allowance” of about €300
  • A round-trip ticket to France
  • A health insurance while in France
  • 30 days of per diem for travel in France for research purposes.

Eligibility:
  1. Candidates must be pursuing a Ph.D. in the Humanities or Social Sciences
  2. Candidates do not have to be U.S. citizens but must be enrolled in an American university*
  3. Candidates must obtain a letter of invitation from a French university, a Grande Ecole or a research institution before applying
  4. No particular level of French is required, though most students need a certain level in order to conduct their research.

Application Process:
Application must include the following socuments:
  1. necessity to be in France for an extended period of time
  2. quality and originality of proposed research project
  3. choice of an appropriate French professor for the candidate’s research proposal
  4. letters of recommendation
  5. letter of invitation
  6. curriculum vitae, list of publications, and academic transcripts.

The Pasteur Foundation Summer Internship Program 2010-American Undergraduate Students-Pasteur Institut-Paris


The Pasteur Foundation offers The American Undergraduate Summer Internships Program for the year 2010 to Undergraduate Students in Paris

As a result of the fame that accompanied Louis Pasteur’s discovery of a treatment for rabies in 1886, scientists sought Pasteur for training. Soon thereafter, in June 1887, the Institut Pasteur was established. Following in this tradition, the Pasteur Foundation created a summer internship program for American undergraduates who wish to pursue a scientific career.

Eligibility:

Applicants must 1) be undergraduates with an excellent academic record and a strong interest in biosciences and biomedical research (prior lab experience is highly recommended); 2) have completed three full years (six semesters) of college course work by the time the internship commences; and 3) not have received an undergraduate degree at the time of application. Knowledge of French or desire to learn it is advisable. This program is open to U.S. citizens only.

Internship Details:
During the internships, interns will carry out research supervised by a lab mentor. Applicants should be eager to engage with a different culture, and self-sufficient enough to arrange travel and secure housing in Paris. Depending on availability, affordable housing in a residence on campus may be possible. Interns will receive a living allowance of $400 per week for a maximum of $4,000. Travel/housing are not paid by this program, but a $300 subsidy is provided and intended to defray costs of travel and requisite insurance.

  1. Two Teacher/Lab Mentor Recommendations must be sent directly to the Pasteur Foundation and be postmarked by Friday, December 11, 2009. No exceptions.
  2. Complete applications are due and must be received at the Pasteur Foundation by: Friday, December 18, 2009.
  3. Application packets must contain a cover sheet with your name and the names of your two evaluators with their emails, one id-size photo paperclipped to cover. Cover sheet should be followed by six (6) sets of the documents listed below and no additional materials are to be included.
  4. Each set should be collated in the order below and not bound in any way.

The Pasteur Foundation offers the Postdoctoral Fellowships to  US Postdoctoral Researchers for the year 2010/11 at Pasteur Institute laboratories in Paris

Thanks to the generosity of our U.S. donors, and in particular with the pace-setting support of the Florence Gould Foundation, the Pasteur Foundation administers this fellowship program to bring U.S. postdoctoral researchers to work in any one of the 130+ Institut Pasteur laboratories in Paris. Guided by the institute’s administration, which seeks to develop international scientific exchanges to ensure the vitality of Institut Pasteur labs, this program is open to American citizens who are not already in France.

Eligibility:

  • US Postdoctoral Researchers.
  • US Citizens.

Application Process:
  • Copy of each of the following:
  1. A passport-size photo,
  2. Reprints of candidate’s most significant publications (1 copy of each),
  3. 2 sealed letters of recommendation addressed directly to the Direction de l’Évaluation Scientifique,
  4. A letter of support justifying the project from the head of the Pasteur department to be sent directly to the Direction de l’Évalutation Scientifique.
  • 13 COPIES OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING:
  1. A letter of request from the sponsoring head of the host laboratory or unit at the Institut Pasteur. The first step is to identify a host laboratory head so that he or she may serve as your sponsor; a list of Institut Pasteur laboratories may be found at www.pasteur.fr/recherche/unites-en.html;
  2. The host lab’s organizational chart of current personnel;
  3. Candidate’s Curriculum vitae (2 pages) with an indication of any current grants and/or funding (plus their origin and duration), and a list of publications;
  4. A synopsis of scientific accomplishments (3 pages);
  5. A brief description of the research program to be written by the candidate (3 pages), with emphasis on how this relates to the work-in-progress in the host unit or lab. The project must be described within the context of the actual international state of the subject (with three key bibliographic references), and must state the project’s objectives, experimental strategy and feasibility; *
  6. Summary of the research program (15 to 20 lines + a title and 5 key words) placed in the context of international competition with the project’s goals, experimental strategy and feasibility.

Arabic Flagship Program 2010/11-Graduate Students-Maryland University-USA


The College of Arts and Humanities offers The Arabic Flagship Program to Graduate Students for the academic year 2010/11 at the Maryland University in USA

The graduate Arabic Language Flagship Program at the University of Maryland trains students to a professional level proficiency in Arabic. These programs are partially funded by The Language Flagship. Students learn both Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and their choice of either the Levantine or the Egyptian dialect. Students earn either a Graduate Certificate of Professional Studies (GCPS) or a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Arabic. Graduates are able to use Arabic in their respective professional fields at a superior competency level.

Eligibility:

The graduate school at University of Maryland requires all admitted graduate students to have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States, or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in another country. A GPA of 3.0 is required for admission into this program.

British Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships 2010/11-Iranian Graduate Students- British Embassy-Iran


The British Embassy offers The British Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships to Iranian Graduate Students for the academic year 2010/11 in UK

The British Chevening Scholarships, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, are prestigious awards enabling overseas students to study in the United Kingdom. The scholarships are offered in more than 150 countries and give talented graduates and young professionals the opportunity to become familiar with the UK and gain skills which will benefit their future careers and home countries. The British Embassy in Tehran is offering several Scholarships for Iranian Nationals to undertake postgraduate study in the UK during the academic year 2010/11.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants should normally be between the ages of 25 and 35 years; but applications from all ages are welcome.
  2. Must have a four-year Bachelors degree with a minimum GPA of 16 out of 20 from any recognised university in Iran or the equivalent grade from an overseas institution. Candidates with a lower second degree but with impressive career achievements can still apply.
  3. Applicants with more than one qualification should provide details of all the degrees they have obtained during their higher education studies.
  4. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  5. Must have completed all military and official services or official service regulations.
  6. Applicants must have a very good level of English in order to cope with the demands of postgraduate study in the UK. Candidates should have an International English Language test (IELTS) score not lower than 6.5 or TOEFL of 95.
  7. Anyone who has received a British Government scholarship or training award within the last five years should not apply.
  8. Anyone who holds an Iranian scholarship or training award should not apply.
  9. Awardees are required to come back to Iran after completion of their programmes.  If you wish to apply for a post-study work permit or a PhD in the UK following your studies then this scholarship is not suitable for you.

SA 2010 MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIP-CATAWBA COLLEGE


Catawba College Merit Based Scholarship 2010-USA
Scholarship Introduction:
The First Family Scholarships are the most prestigious scholarships at Catawba College. There are two First Family Competitions, one taking place on November 20-21, 2009 and one taking place on February 19-20, 2010. Consideration for the First Family Scholarship is by invitation only. In order to be considered for an invitation, students must first apply for admission to Catawba.

Scholarship Eligibility:
SAT Math sub-score & critical Reading sub-scores totaling 1150 or
ACT composite Score of 25 & academic grade point average of 3.5. Freshman status.

How to apply:
Those subsequently invited to compete must complete the Financial Aid Estimator Form, provide a recommendation from a teacher or administrator, submit an essay of approximately 300 words (on a selected topic which you will receive by invitation), and submit a co-curricular listing of achievements by the appropriate deadline.
