[Norway] Ph.D. position on Process Analytical Technology

Ph.D. position on Process Analytical Technology
Telemark University College currently enrols about 5000 students and employs about 500 employees. The university college has four faculties and the teaching and research activities are located at campuses in Bø, Notodden, Porsgrunn and Rauland. The university college administration is located at Porsgrunn.

Process Analytical Technologies: acoustic chemometrics, multivariate image analysis and representative sampling for improved industrial process control

The Faculty employs a staff of 70. The position is associated with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Cybernetic, and the immediate superior is the Head of the Department. The place of employment is Porsgrunn.

Current activities at the Faculty of Technology are a.o. directed towards extending the scope of Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) to a broader range of processing and manufacturing sectors, with a particular focus on particle-processing and bio-mass conversion industries. The Ph.D. study focuses on three modalities not yet fully exploited in PAT, individually or in more powerful combinations:

  • Acoustic chemometrics [AC]
  • Representative process sampling [Theory of Sampling, TOS]
  • Multivariate image analysis [MIA, AMT, and MIR]

These emerging modalities will be applied in feasibility studies on selected industrial processes - in TUC’s own process technological equipment laboratories, with pilot-plant or full scale-up applications in selected collaborating industries.

It is a requirement that the person appointed to the position will enter a doctoral degree programme in Process, Energy, and Automation Engineering. Candidates should have a Master of Science or Master of Technology degree, or the equivalent, in areas such as chemometrics, chemical engineering, process technology, cybernetics or applied statistics.

The appointment term is for a period of 3 years.

The workforce in the public sector should to the greatest extent possible reflect the diversity of the population. It is therefore a personnel policy objective to achieve a balanced age and gender composition and recruit people from immigrant backgrounds.
