UK : 3 PhD Studentships Control For Energy And Sustainability

Limit of tenure: 3.5 years
3 PhD studentships are available in the Control Group at the University of Cambridge funded by EPSRC as part of a recently announced programmegrant on Control for Energy and Sustainability awarded to Imperial College and the University of Cambridge.
Possible topic areas include:control of hybrid systems, passivity based control and model predictive control.
It is expected that students will interact with other students and research associates at Cambridge and Imperial College who are working on theoretical and applied aspects of control in the areas of energy and sustainability. The studentships will be supervised by Faculty members in the control group (Dr J.M. Goncalves, Prof M.C.Smith, Prof J.M. Maciejowski, Prof K. Glover and Dr G. Vinnicombe). The studentships will provide maintenance for UK or EU candidates at the EPSRC standard rate (13,290 for 2010-11) plus payment of the University and College fees for up to 42 months. Non-EU candidates may apply but funding for the overseas fee contribution will need to be provided from other sources. Candidates should apply for a studentship by making a formal application for admission to the University as a PhD student in the control group (Department of Engineering). Candidates should indicate on their application that they wish to be considered for an EPSRC studentship on Control for Energy and Sustainability. Completed applications for PhD study should reach the Board of Graduate Studies by 31 May, 2010. Studentships may be allocated on a first come first served basis to suitably qualified candidates.
