[Singapore] Scholarships and Merit Awards


Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore offers two types of scholarships for our two full-time Master’s Degree programmes.

  • Singapore Scholarship Awards, deadline 1 February 2010, for April intake, 30 July 2010 for September intake.
  • Singapore Open Merit Award, deadline 15 January 2010.

Please note that Sotheby’s Institute of Art receives a very high volume of scholarship applications each year and is therefore regrettably unable to provide detailed feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
1. Singapore Scholarship Awards
Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Scholarship Awards are for studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in Singapore on either the Master’s Degree programme in Art Business or the Master’s Degree programme in Contemporary Art.

Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:
  • Performed consistently well academically
  • Be proficient in English language
  • No age restriction
  • No nationality restriction
Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit the following:
  • A covering letter which states clearly why the applicant is applying for a scholarship.
  • A 1500-2000 word essay chosen from one of the questions provided. Essays should be typed in 11-point text and double spaced.

Important Dates
Any dates given below are tentative and are subject to changes.
  • Application deadlines: 1 February 2010, for April intake, 30 July 2010 for September Intake
  • Notification of Scholarship award: 1 March 2010, for April intake, 31 August 2010 for September intake
  • Start of MA programme: April or September 2010
Terms and Conditions
  • Award of between 10% – 30% of tuition fees
  • There is no bond attached to the Scholarship Award

2. Singapore Open Merit Award

Sotheby’s Institute of Art – Singapore Merit Awards are for studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in Singapore on either the Master’s Degree programme in Art Business or the Master’s Degree programme in Contemporary Art programmes. The annual academic Award is for Singapore citizens and permanent residents of Singapore.
The Award will be a Merit-based Bursary Award for students with limited financial resources.
Candidates who are not short-listed for the Merit Award will be considered for the institute’s general scholarships.
Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:
  • Citizens or Permanent Residents of Singapore
  • Performed consistently well academically
  • Be proficient in English language
  • No age restriction
Requirements
The award will require applicants to submit the following:
  • A covering letter which states clearly why the applicant is applying for a Bursary Award.
  • A 1500-2000 word essay chosen from one of the questions provided. Essays should be typed in 11-point text and double spaced.
Important Dates
Any dates given below are tentative and are subject to changes:
  • Application deadline: 15 January 2010
  • Selection interview dates: tba (candidates short-listed for the selection interview will be notified a week before the selection interview dates)
  • Award of Merit Awards: tba
  • Start of MA degree programme: April and September 2010
Terms and Conditions
  • Waiver of tuition fees
  • Successful applicants will still be required to pay for the cost of non-tuition fees.
  • There is no bond attached to the Merit Awards
General Terms and Conditions
Eligibility
The Institute of Art – Singapore Scholarships and Awards are open to applicants who have applied and been offered a place on an Institute postgraduate degree programme.
Requirements
Applicants are required to submit the following:
  • Completed application
  • A covering letter which states clearly why you are applying for a scholarship, or award. You must also state which award (scholarship or award) you are applying for.
  • A 1500-2000 word essay. Essay should be typed, in 11-point text and double spaced. The essay questions will be provided upon application.
Applications will be assessed by the Institute’s Scholarship Committee which shall have sole and absolute discretion in assessing Essays and making Awards, and whose decisions will be final and binding without obligation for explanation or justification.
The providers of an Award will not be liable for any loss howsoever incurred in connection with the supply of the Award.
Information provided in an application for an Award will remain confidential, with the exception that the Institute retains the right to publicise the event of an Award to a successful applicant, including the successful applicant’s identity and Essay, should the Institute so wish.
