Austria : Open PhD-Position-Austrian Institute of Technology

Within the project I2Bau, integrated intermodal concepts for bulk logistics will be developed, represented in mathematical models, and solved using novel hybrid optimisation algorithms. The aim of the project is to increase the economical attractiveness of ecological transport solutions, thereby allowing carriers to shift goods that are usually transported by trucks to ecological modes of transportation.
We are looking for an outstanding PhD student whose main task will be to model underlying supply-chain processes and logistics using mathematical methods and operations research methods. These models shall be numerically solved using novel hybrid optimisation algorithms.

Qualifications:
Outstanding master degree in computer science, applied mathematics, operations research or a closely related field
Candidates should have strong, proven knowledge in some of the following areas:
-Metaheuristic algorithms (tabu search, variable neighborhood search, genetic algorithms, ant colony optimisation, and others)
Exact methods based on mathematical programming
-Constraint programming
-Modelling of supply-chain processes and Network Design
-Transport optimisation (vehicle routing, route planning, and others)
(object-oriented) Programming (mainly C++ and Java)
The candidates should submit: motivation letter, detailed curriculum vitae, list of (at least two) references with contact informations and credentials.

Place of employment: Wien
We are pleased to invite interested persons who wish to contribute their knowledge, their network and their ideas to the field of applied research. Please attach meaningful application documents, including certificates and photos.
