[England] John McGrath Scholarship in Theatre Studies

The Scottish Universities International Summer School has set up a scholarship in memory of John McGrath, who was a good friend of the School and whose classic text The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil is part of our curriculum. The Scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the friends of John McGrath.

The Scholarship will be payable in Edinburgh as a deduction of the Summer School's course and accommodation fees, which cover the costs of all tuition, accommodation, most meals, a social and cultural programme and includes full use of the facilities of the library of Edinburgh University. The successful candidate will be offered a free place on either the Text and Context Course or the Creative Writing Course. The Scholarship does not cover travel expenses or spending money.
Applications for this special Scholarship are now invited from present or recent students and junior lecturers who specialise in Twentieth Century Theatre Studies and/or are practically involved in the Theatre. Normally, applicants will be required to have a research interest and/or practical experience in the general field of Twentieth Century popular and political theatre. The closing date for the award is 12th April 2010.
Applicants should indicate on page 4 of the application form if they would like to be considered for the John McGrath Scholarship in Theatre Studies, and include a letter explaining their reasons for applying. We require one of your referees to support this scholarship application.
If unsuccessful, applicants to the Text and Context course can be considered for a SUISS scholarship. (Please indicate on page 4 of the application form if you would like this to be the case.) Please note that SUISS scholarships only cover part of the course fee. Applicants for the six weeks course can apply for a SUISS scholarship for the first term of the Text and Context course.
Further information can be found on the SUISS website, which also contains the facility to download our application forms. A brochure, application form and credit information can also be obtained from:
