UK - PhD Studentship in Physics, Chemistry, nanoTechnology & Optoelectronics

PhD Studentship in Physics, Chemistry, nanoTechnology & Optoelectronics
Job Description : Nanotechnology can design new properties by tuning materials size, composition and organisation. From October onward, St Andrews University seeks to appoint a PhD student to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment. The student will be at the interface of Physics and Chemistry and the main challenges involve:
- Colloidal nanoParticles Syntheses
- Colloidal Quantum Dots and HybridLEDs
- Plasmonic nanoParticles
- Hetero nanoStructures
The PhD student will be supervised by Dr. P. André while collaborations will be developed over the course of the PhD. The studentship is available for UK/EU citizens only, will start once appropriate candidate will have been selected for a period of up to 3 years and at EPSRC rates (~£12900 pa & tax free). If overseas candidates wish to apply then potential funding sources considered for overseas fee should be clearly commented in the cover letter.
For any application to be processed: Applicants for the position will have a strong background in one of the following field: physics, chemistry, material science, or chemical engineering. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a serious commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary research. Information request as well as applications should be sent electronically to Pascal.Andre@st-andrews.ac.uk. These emails will be filtered, so that the subject line should be “applicant name – NanoGen09-SPCOM”, the attachments should be in a pdf format and named with the following structure “applicant_name-CV.pdf” and “applicant_name-COVER.pdf”. The cover letter should state the initial source of information and discuss the present information in the context of both the applicant experience and the research completed in the group (see http://hybridnanocolloids.com). The CV should highlight the achievements and contributions while demonstrating the candidate perseverance, flexibility, originality and ability to communicate in a concise and structured manner.
