[Netherlands] Ph.D Scholarships and Postdocs in Social Sciences at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS)

The ICS offers fully funded Ph.D scholarships for a variety of projects to excellent candidates who recently gradua­ted in one of the social sciences. Graduates in Mathematics, Statistics or Economics are also invited to apply.

The Ph.D students will be appointed for a full four-year period in which the graduates will work on an individual project, leading to a doctoral dissertation. The generous scholarships fully cover tuition, research and living expenses. The salary amounts to appr. €2042,- before taxes in the first year of the appointment, rising to appr. €2612,- before taxes in the fourth year. There are no tuition fees.

The program (in English) begins September 1st, 2009 and applications should arrive at the ICS before May 1, 2009.

The deadline for sending in applications is May 1st, 2009.

  • Candidates can choose a project from the following list .
  • Candidates can also suggest a project of his/her own that fits well into the ICS research program.
  • Applicants are requested to write a brief motivation for the proposal(s) of their preference.
  • Applicants are advised to read the literature mentioned with the proposal(s) of their choice.
  • Literature which is mentioned to be ‘available on request’ can be obtained from the ICS secretariat in Utrecht.
  • As already mentioned, the selection procedure aims at identifying highly qualified candidates and at a careful match of these candidates with suitable projects.
