[United Arab Emirates] PhD Scholarship in various program at United Arab Emirates Unversity

The United Arab Emirates University announces the establishment of a new Ph.D. program for qualified Emiratis and a number of expatriate students. The program will begin Fall 2009 and it is anticipated that up to 20 students will be admitted this first year.

I. General Information

  1. All Ph. D. students must be full time students.
  2. All Ph.D. students will be supported by a scholarship that will include:
    1. A monthly tax free stipend of 10,000 AED
    2. University provided furnished housing
    3. Health insurance for student, spouse and up to three children
    4. Textbooks will be provided
    5. Annual round trip air tickets to home country for student, spouse and up to three children (for expatriate students)
  3. Tuition will be charged for the Ph.D. program on a credit hour basis and all admitted students will be eligible to receive sponsorships of tuition. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program who do not receive external sponsorships will be eligible for University sponsorship of tuition charges.
  4. The expected duration of the Ph.D. program will be 3-4 years post Bachelor`s degree or 2-3 years post Master`s degree
  5. The program will consist of at least one year`s graduate level course work, passing of a qualifying examination and successful completion of a dissertation.
  6. The exact nature of a Ph.D. students` program will be prepared by the host department and approved by the Board of Graduate Research Studies.
  7. Fields available for study include all areas currently presented by the faculties and colleges at UAEU. Discipline field names will be used such as chemical engineering, physics, history, etc.

II. Admission Requirements

  1. Minimum GPA Expectation:
    1. If post Bachelor degree entry - 3.5 out of 4.0 for final 60 credit hours
    2. If post Master`s degree entry - 3.5 out of 4.0 for Masters Course work.
  2. Minimum TOEFL score - 575 expected
  3. GRE scores will be considered; GMAT scores for Business will be considered. These scores are not required but will strengthen the application.
  4. Two letters of recommendation are required
  5. After receipt of the completed application form and supporting information as outlined in the next section, an application proposal will be prepared by host department and will require the approval of the department chair and college dean. This proposal will include a statement of personal goals from the candidate and a description of the proposal program of work.
  6. The proposal will be considered by the Board of Graduate Research Studies and a recommendation made to the Provost who will make the final decision as to acceptance into the program.
  7. Each of the following will be considered in reaching a decision whether or not to approve enrollment and the proposed course of study:
  8. Candidates suitability, academic achievements and potential
    1. Suitability and research record of supervisor and, if applicable, co-supervisor(s)
    2. Suitability and research record of thesis advisory committee membership
    3. Department facilities or their equivalent
    4. Proposed coursework, including learning outcome goals
    5. Proposed thesis topic or general area of research (exact topic may beapproved later)
    6. Eligibility and admission to the Ph.D. program are independent of the applicant`s tuition sponsorship.

III. Application Procedure

  2. Candidate must have official transcripts of all university work sent directly from the appropriate universities to Office of Admissions, UAE University, P.O. Box 17555, United Arab Emirates (use of express mail suggested).
  3. Official score reports of the TOEFL, (GRE and/or GMAT) should be sent to:

The Institute of Theoretical Physics Scholarship is available to a student who is interested in pursing a career in physics and has demonstrated a high-level of academic achievement.

The ASA 2009/2010 Graduate Scholarship – the American Shotcrete Association (ASA) for graduate study

Scholarship Introduction:
The ASA Graduate Scholarships are available to applicants who have been accepted into a graduate program in the field of concrete at the time of application to an accredited college or university within the United States or at Laval University in Canada. To receive consideration for an ASA Graduate Scholarship, the applicant needs only to submit one application. Based on essays, submitted data, and references, the ASA Scholarship Committee will select scholarship recipients who appear to have the strongest combination of interest and potential for professional success in the shotcrete industry.

Eligibility for Scholarship:
• At the time of application, the applicant shall have been accepted for graduate study in the area of concrete at an accredited college or university within the United States or at Laval University in Canada.
• Applicants must be a full-time first or second-year (after bachelor’s degree) graduate student during the entire scholarship year. Course work during a summer session will count toward the degree year. Applications will be accepted from anywhere in the world but graduate study must take place in the United States or at Laval University in Canada during the award year.
• For your application packet to be considered for this award, each of the following pieces of information must be submitted by the deadline indicated on the application form:
*Completed 2009-2010 typed application form (handwritten applications will not be accepted)
*One-page resume (anything over one page will not be accepted)
*Essay (1-page limit, 300 words or less, name must be on first page, please include all scheduled classes for balance of academic year)

Access Scholarship 2010 – Curtin University of Technology for undergraduate degree

Scholarship Introduction:
The Curtin Access Scholarship has been designed to assist students who may otherwise not have an opportunity to attend university due to financial hardship. Students must be enrolling for the first year of their first degree in 2010.

Eligibility for Scholarship:

The Norwegian Quota Scheme 2010 – University of Oslo for Master’s and Phd's degree

Scholarship Introduction:
The Norwegian Quota Scheme is a funding scheme offered by the Norwegian Government to students from developing countries, Central and Eastern Europe, and former Soviet states for studies at institutions of higher education in Norway. This funding scheme aims at offering specially designed, research-based Master’s Degrees taught in English. The Quota Scheme also offers funding for Ph.D.-programmes and a one-year course in advanced Norwegian Language. Quota Scheme applicants should come from universities/institutions with formal cooperation agreements with the University of Oslo.

Eligibility for Scholarship:
Applicants for admission under the Quota Scheme must fulfill certain criteria in order to be considered for admission. Admission is limited and therefore extremely competitive.

How to apply:
Due to the large number of Quota applicants to a limited number of Quota scholarships available, potential applicants must submit the online ‘Request for Application Form’ before they can receive the formal application form. The ‘Requests for Application Forms’ will be processed by the International Education Office and only applicants that fulfil all the formal Quota requirements will receive the application form. The deadline for submitting the online ‘Request for Application Form’ is 1 November, in order for the students to have sufficient time to submit the Quota Scheme application and the required documents before the 1 December application deadline.
The Request for Application Form for the 2010 enrolment will be available on this web site end of August 2009.
Students address their Quota application directly to the International Education Office at the University of Oslo.
Doctoral programme applicants must in addition send in their research proposal and application for admission to doctoral studies to the relevant faculty.

ARC PhD Scholarship Opportunity: The use of social marketing to improve asthma self-management 2009 – University of Wollongong

Scholarship Introduction:
The Centre for Health Initiatives at the University of Wollongong and the Asthma Foundation NSW are calling for applications for PhD scholarships. This project, funded by the Australian Research Council, seeks to implement and evaluate a novel approach to improving asthma self-management among older Australians. This project will apply evidence-based social marketing principles to the development of an asthma self-management education program, from formative through to evaluative stages. The successful applicant will have: First-class honours (or equivalent) in public health, marketing, psychology or a related field An understanding of social marketing principles, and some exposure to social marketing and/or health promotion in their previous studies An interest in asthma, and some exposure to chronic disease self-management and/or health behaviour change in their previous studies

Spring 2010 – Two day Preprogram Orientation in Pensacola – University of West Florida

Scholarship Introduction:

Kathleen Mary Reardon Travelling Scholarship in Music 2009/2010 – The university of Ackland

Scholarship Introduction:
This Scholarship was established in 1998 by the trustees of the Reardon Memorial Music Trust in association with The University of Auckland using funds left to the Trust by the estate of Mrs Robina Annie Reardon, MBE.
To help music students from The University of Auckland intending to improve their instrumental or vocal skills overseas.

Eligibility for Scholarship:
The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Council of The University of Auckland on the result of an examination to be conducted by the Head of the School of Music or Deputy, with the assistance of another member of staff from the School of Music; and a third examiner, who will not normally be a current member of staff in the School of Music.
