Overview

The MS Programme is designed to enhance the capacity of developing countries to manage their drylands resources. It is intended to provide young professionals and scientists an international perspective on resource management approaches in drylands. Students enrolled in the 2010-2011 programme will attend a 4-week intense course at CAREERI facilities in Lanzhou, China from 13 September – 12 October 2010. Upon completion of the course work and approval of the research proposal, students will carry out their field research which will be hosted by one of the partner organizations. The students are also required to complete a research project in their home country. The MS Programme is jointly offered by the seven partner institutions as an internationally accepted degree.


It is anticipated that the graduates from the MS Programme will serve in government departments and agencies (e.g., those dealing with agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, and combating desertification), teaching positions in institutions of higher learning, research institutions and doctoral research programmes.

Scholarships



A limited number of Fellowships will be provided to qualified candidates from developing countries on a competitive basis. These fellowships will cover the travel costs between the country of origin and IRA, CAREERI, ICARDA and TU, as needed. Japanese students may only apply for TU fellowships.

Part or full fellowships will be provided to qualified candidates from developing countries on a competitive basis. These fellowships will cover international airfare at economy excursion rates (between the country of origin and the hosting institutions in Tunisia, China, Syria or Japan). Housing, meals, and local transportation in Tunisia, China, Syria or Japan will be provided by the respective host institutions.

The application form must be completed and signed. The following supporting documents must be submitted together with the application form:



A letter of nomination from your supervisor/university where you are currently registered in a Master’s programme that certifies completion of basic course work.

A certified copy of academic transcripts for each institution attended.

An original detailed research proposal of 10 pages clearly outlining the problem statement, literature review, research question, methodology, expected results, workplan and timetable.

Two original supporting letters of reference, one of which must be from your current supervisor.

Evidence of English language proficiency, where English is not your first language (e.g., TOEFL score, English certificate, etc.)

Documents which are not in English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

Italy - Science Masters Scholarships 2010/11-Politecnico di Torino

The Politecnico di Torino offers The Science Masters Scholarships to Chinese Citizens for the year 2010/11 in Italy

The Politecnico di Torino offers international students the possibility to receive a scholarship and other benefits to graduate from the Politecnico di Torino attending a Master of Science program in Engineering.

Scholarship Details:’

1. Location: Torino
2. Language in which the courses are held: English or Italian
3. Length: 2 years
4. The activities will begin in September 2010.
5. The gross amount of the scholarship is 5.000 Euro per year for the complete period. The exact net sum is dependent upon the individual tax conditions of each student.
6. The amount of the scholarship will not be increased in case the student will need more time to graduate than indicated.
7. The allocation of the scholarship is dependent upon the submission of the original documentation, which must correspond with the documentation attached to the application form (see the “Selection outcomes” section below).
8. Payment of the scholarship occurs periodically. The first instalment is dependent upon the possession of the relevant documentation (Master of Science program enrollment certification, residence permit, Italian fiscal code, and bank account in the name of the scholarship recipient); for this reason, the first instalment is not paid at the moment of the enrollment in the Master of Science program of the Politecnico di Torino, but in the course of the following months.

Eligibility:

Application is open to students who:

1. are Chinese citizens;
2. are currently enrolled (in the 2009/2010 academic year) in the third year of the Bachelor program in Mechanical and Production Engineering, or Information Technology Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino or at the Politecnico di Milano;
3. are not recipients of any other scholarships, Italian or foreign.

Fill in the application form, print it out and submit it, together with the requested documents, to the Department of International Affairs of the Politecnico di Torino – International Relations office (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9,00 to 11,30 a.m.). After having completed these steps, the application for a scholarship will be considered complete.

Medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination.

Applicants must submit or send the above materials to the International College of Zhejiang University before March 15th, 2010. Application materials will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.

Admission and Notification
Zhejiang University will review all the application materials. Decisions for admission and for granting the scholarships will be made on the basis of the applicants’ competitiveness, academic record and otherwise.
The name list of the scholarship awardees for graduate programs will be sent to China Scholarship Council for review before April 1st, 2010.
After the name list is reviewed and approved by China Scholarship Council, the scholarship awardees will be notified by the university and Admission Notice and other relevant documents will be sent to them directly.

Notes
Scholarship students’ affairs are managed according to the relevant regulations of Chinese Government Scholarship. Scholarship students must go through the Annual Review of the Chinese Government Scholarship Status.
The duration of the scholarship could not be extended if the awardees fail to complete their studies due to personal reasons.
Scholarship students who have to suspend their studies due to illness must return to their home country for further treatment and recovery. Expenses for the international travel to and from the university will be borne by the students themselves, and their scholarship status will be reserved for one year at most, with the monthly living allowance stopped during the suspension. Scholarships of the students who suspend their studies for reasons other than illness will not be reserved.

[China] Postgraduate & Undergraduate Scholarship

China/Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) scholarship scheme is a full scholarship provided for PIF member countries by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China (hereinafter referred to as MOE). MOE entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to manage the recruitment and carry out the routine management of this scholarship program. 10 scholarships are available for the academic year 20
Chinese HEIs use Chinese as their official instruction language for the undergraduate education, part of the Chinese HEIs could conduct part of the postgraduate programs and non-degree courses for general and senior scholars in English. Applicants with no command of Chinese are generally required to take one to two years’ Chinese language course  (for undergraduates program applicants, one to two years’ college preparatory courses) prior to the academic study . Only by passing the examinations after the above courses, could they start their academic studies. For those need to take the Chinese language courses or college preparatory courses, their scholarship duration will be extended automatically.

CRETERIA & ELIGIBILITY

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, but citizens of PIF member countries, in good health.
• Education background and age limit:
  • Applicants for undergraduate studies must have senior high school diploma with good grade and be under the age of 25.
  • Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
  • Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
  • Applicants for Chinese training program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35, Chinese language is the only subject available.
  • Applicants for general scholar candidates must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 45, all subjects besides Chinese language are available.
  • Applicants for senior scholar candidates must have master’s degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the age of 50.

VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP

• Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, and fee for basic learning materials; and free accommodation on campus;
• Living allowance;
• One-off settlement subsidy after registration;
• Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
• One-off inter-city travel subsidy.

Note:

• Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship that beyond the university’s arrangements should be self-afforded.
• Fee for basic learning materials ONLY covers the necessary learning materials prescribed by the host institution, and other textbooks and materials shall be self afforded.
• Monthly living allowance is granted to the students through the host institution at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
• Undergraduates & Chinese language students: CNY 1,400 Yuan
• Master’s degree students & general scholars: CNY 1,700 Yuan
• Doctoral degree students & senior scholars: CNY 2,000 Yuan

Scholarship students shall receive their monthly living allowance after registration. New students who register before 15th (15th included) of the registration month will get the full amount of the living allowance of that month, and those who register after 15th will get half amount. The graduates will get a living allowance for another 15 days after the graduation date set by the university. The allowance will be terminated from the next month after students suspend their studies, drop school or complete schooling from the university. Monthly living allowance covers school holidays. Scholarship students who missed the monthly living allowance during holidays could be reimbursed upon return on campus. The allowance will be suspended for one month for those students who do not register on time without permission from the university in advance, leave for non-health reasons or are absent from the university over a month. Students who have to suspend their studies for health reasons are required to go back to their home countries for treatment. The international travel expenses should be covered by the students. With the university’s approval, the scholarship status can be reserved for up to one year, and their living allowances will be suspended during their leave. The scholarship status will not be reserved for those who suspend their studies for other reasons.
New students will get a one-off settlement subsidy upon their arrival in China.

• CNY 1,000 Yuan for new students who will study in China up to one academic year
• CNY 1,500 Yuan for new students who will study in China above one academic year

Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the outpatient expense in the institution’s hospital or the hospitals appointed by the institution. The students are required to share a certain percentage of expense in accordance with the institution’s relevant regulations.
Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China is provided by MOE for the scholarship students in China in case of hospitalizing for serious diseases and accidental injures. The institutions or the appointed medical assistance agencies provide advancement service for insurance expenses, and claim for compensation with relevant payment receipts from the insurance company according to the stipulated insurance articles. For scholarship student, the individual claim will not be accepted by the insurance company.
One-off inter-city travel ticket (each for coming-in and leaving China)
A hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided for new scholarship students traveling from the port of entry upon registration to the city where the admitting institution or institution of Chinese language training or college preparatory courses is located; students traveling from the Chinese language training institution or the preparatory education institution to the city where the university for major study is located; and students traveling from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port for departure upon graduation. Meal and excess of baggage should be self-afforded.
International travel expenses: funded by Chinese government.

• Recommendation letters: Applicants for master or doctoral degree studies, or study in China as senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors
• Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of the applicants’ own works. Applicants for fine arts must submit a CD of the applicants’ own works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
• A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 200 words for undergraduates, no less than 500 words for scholars, no less than 800 words for postgraduates).
• Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal guardians in China.
• Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form printed by Chinese quarantine authority could be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. SELECTION OF INSTITUTIONS AND SPECIALTY
Applicants may choose three institutions and one academic program as their preferences from the Chinese HEIs designated by MOE. Please check the Directory of Chinese Higher Institutions Admitting International Students under Chinese Government Scholarship Program. Only the listed Chinese HEIs in the Directory are available to the applicants for their study in China.
APPROVAL AND NOTIFICATION

• CSC will review all the application documents and CSC reserves to right to make necessary adjustments on the applied institutions, specialties and duration of study. The qualified applications will be forwarded to institutions for academic caliber and they will forward their nominations to CSC for agreement. The applications will be regarded as invalid and will not be accepted if they fail to meet the enrollment requirements or the application documents are incomplete.
• Applicants are required to enclose the admission notice from Chinese HEIs, if they have, in the documents submitted to CSC.
• Scholarship applicants accepted by Chinese HEIs will be officially awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship with the approval from CSC.
• Students are required to sign on their Admission Notice, if they have no objection with the placement, and are not permitted, in principle, to change their academic programs, institutions or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice.
• CSC will send the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the relevant dispatching authorities by July 31st, 2010, who will forward the documents to the students.

This exciting scholarship opportunity is open to Canadian, Chinese, Indian and US nationals. Awards worth £2000 each are available towards the cost of tuition fees for full time Masters Programmes in a wide range of subject areas. Eligibility
To be considered for the scholarship you will need to have applied to the University of Aberdeen for a place starting in September 2010 and have firmly accepted an offer, either conditional or unconditional by 11 June 2010.

Global East Asia Program
Three Global East Asia (EASC 360) study abroad courses will be offered during summer 2010 in China, Japan, and Korea. Students who are accepted and complete all course requirements will receive 4 units of upper-division USC credit.
Course Benefits
Students accepted into the program will have all major travel-related expenses paid for by the East Asian Studies Center, including roundtrip international airfare from LAX, basic lodging and meals, and local transportation and entrance fees related to the course while abroad. Note: the 4 units of USC tuition and associated fees will not be covered by the program.

Eligibility
USC undergraduates from any school or major may apply for the Global East Asia program. The ideal candidate will have a solid academic background and will demonstrate a level of maturity appropriate for participation in a study abroad program. Prior multi-cultural experience will also be considered in the application process. At the time of application, students must:

• Have successfully completed (or be in the process of completing) TWO language and/or area studies courses related to the country of study.
