The Teacher Scholarship Award is open to teachers from all nationalities teaching in one of the schools in Ras Al Khaimah. It provides funding for either a PhD degree, Master’s degree, short courses for 1 – 3 months durations or, an in-school research project.
OBJECTIVES
- Contribute to the overall development of the educational sector in RAK
- Improve the status of teachers and increase more interest in the profession
- Provide an opportunity for distinguished teachers to improve their skills and knowledge
- Enable schools to recruit and retain high quality teachers
To be eligible for the award, the teacher candidate should posses the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary institution
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Committed to stay in Ras Al Khaimah and further contribute to the educational development through putting into practice their new skills and knowledge acquired
- Have a clear idea how their Scholarship will benefit the educational sector in RAK
PhD Degree, Master’s Degree, and Short-term Course
Applicants are fully responsible for securing their own acceptance from an accredited university or institution in the UAE or abroad for their chosen qualification. These qualifications are expected to be conducted with the on-going teaching profession at the school, and making use of the school holidays as necessary and therefore may include on-line and hybrid courses. That is, the teacher will maintain a teaching commitment to the school throughout the course.
I. Applicants should submit the following documentation electronically:
- A statement of no more than 1,500 words on how you will benefit professionally and how the school will benefit in terms of the improved quality of teaching, learning and educational programs
- A brief statement of no more than 500 words on how you will balance the course requirements with your on-going professional commitments at the school
- Curriculum Vitae
- Two letters of recommendation; one should be from your department head or school principal
- A copy of the letter of acceptance from an accredited university or institution for the chosen qualification
- Copies of your tertiary education certificates and transcripts
- Proposed budget with line items
Benefits
The award will fund the candidate’s tuition fees for the entailed program of study. Additional funding will be available for accommodation, in-country transportation, books and resources and other items as required.
Research Project
I. Applicants should submit the following:
- Preliminary proposal which should not be longer than 1500 words and should include:
- Description of research project and key research question
- Summary of the research project’s overall goal in terms of the new knowledge that the research is set to achieve
- Summary of research methodologies, instruments and analysis to be used
- Brief explanation of how the proposed research will be of practical benefit to the RAK educational sector and your own school in particular. A statement of no more than 500 words on why you would make a successful candidate for the award .
- Curriculum Vitae
- Two letters of recommendation; one should be from your department head or school principal.
- Copies of your tertiary education certificates and transcripts, as well as copies of transcripts of current degree acquired to date.
- Proposed budget with line items.
Benefits
The award will fund the candidate for up to one year to conduct the research according to the proposed budget.
REVIEW, SELECTION PROCESS AND CONDITIONS
First Selection stage:
Applications and documents submitted on-line will be reviewed by an internal committee and recommended accordingly. Based on the eligibility criteria, application form and documents, the internal committee will recommend candidates for an interview.
Second Selection Stage:
If you are successful in the first selection stage, you will be invited to an interview for the second stage of the selection process.
Conditions:
Should you be successful at the second selection stage, prior to receiving the award, you will be requested to sign a written commitment to return and work in Ras Al Khaimah for 2 years upon completion of the PhD or Master’s degree and 1 year upon completion of a short course or research project.

Processing of awards : March 2010
Preliminary proposals will be reviewed by an internal committee and recommended accordingly. Applicants will be informed on the status of preliminary proposal within 4 – 7 weeks of submission where applicants then may be requested to submit a full proposal. Upon request for a full proposal, the applicant will be given a specific deadline for submitting.
