Hedley Bull Scholarship: MA in International Relations, Australia National University

The Graduate Studies in International Affairs program offers up to four Hedley Bull Scholarships each year for full-time study in the Master of Arts (International Relations) commencing in semester one. Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Master of Arts (International Relations).

When applying for the MA (International Relations), eligible applicants for the Hedley Bull Scholarship should include a covering letter indicating their interest in being considered for the scholarship and making the case for being granted one. The covering letter together with the application for the MA (International Relations) (including transcripts and three academic references) will be considered as the full application for the scholarship. There is no need to provide a separate application. The scholarship provides a full-fee waiver for three full-time sessions (semesters). This amounts to 48 units of graduate coursework and a 24-unit thesis session.

PhD Studentship in School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, UK

PhD Studentship “Immobilisation of radionuclides via in situ incorporation into stable mineral phases” is available in School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, UK

Objectives:

Develop in situ methodologies for achieving irreversible incorporation radionuclide in contaminated sediments or sludges.
Investigate the incorporation mechanisms of Sr, Cs and U into stable mineral phases, such as iron oxides, carbonates and silicates common to all UK sediment types.
Develop protocols for investigating radionuclide speciation in experimental samples and in core materials from NDA sites, including the use of advanced synchrotron and electron microscopy techniques.
Training:

Training will be provided in state-of-the-art bio-geochemical techniques such as high-resolution electron microscopy, mineralogy and geomicrobiology. The student will use X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterise the radionuclide interaction with minerals at the molecular scale, using the world-class synchrotron radiation research sources at the UK’s Diamond Light Source. This combination of advanced training will provide a broad portfolio of skills required for future employment in the academic, environmental and industrial sectors. Travel to present results at national and international conferences is an expected part of PhD training.

Funding Notes:

This 3.5 year PhD studentship is funded by the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). The NDA Studentship offers payment of full university tuition fees and a living costs bursary (£13,490 in year one). The European Master in Sustainable Regional Health Systems is a two years long interdisciplinary programme of 120 ECTS that aims to give vision, knowledge and tools to develop and manage coherent health systems that contribute both to health and sustainable regional development in their regional communities.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Description

If you are a non-EU student (Category A):

Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: € 8000
Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 4000 / semester
Monthly allowance: € 1000 / month
If you are an EU student inside the EU (Category B):

Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage): € 2000 / semester
Monthly allowance: € 500 / month
Participation costs must be understood as any compulsory administrative/operational cost related to the participation of the student in the EMMC (e.g. library, laboratory, tuition, social security and insurance costs, etc.). Any other costs that may be charged in addition (e.g. for participation in fieldwork activities), being compulsory or voluntary, must be communicated to the candidate student at application stage.

Monthly allowance amounts may be increased in order to cover the additional costs of students with special needs; EMMCs will have to inform the Agency accordingly in the context of their annual student scholarship applications.

Caterory A

Scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who came from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc., …) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.

Category B

Scholoarships can be awarded to any maters students selected by EMMC consortia and who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.

ADMISSION

Admission may be granted to applicants who meet the following common admission criteria:

A university degree in Sociology, Psychology, Law, Political Science, Anthropology, History, Medicine, Social Work, Social Education, Nursing, Public Health etc, that they want to specialize in the scope of the health.
Candidates are required to have a recognized qualification in the language of instruction of the university that they plan to attend. Knowledge of languages of the place of study is an asset.
A sufficient score of one of the following English language certificates (TOEFL, First Certificate, IELTS).
Statement of intent. Applicants must submit a statement of intent indicating why the Master’s is relevant for future carrier.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships: European Master in Law and Economics

The European Master in Law and Economics Scholarships amount to 21,000 EURO per selected student. Annually, nineteen scholarships for students are available.

The European Master in Law and Economics is offered by a consortium of seven universities:

Erasmus University Rotterdam (co-ordinating institution),

The study programme covers one academic year, divided into three terms.

The Masters Course is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in Economic Analysis of Law: the use of economic methods to explain and assess the effects of divergent legal rules.

Since differences between national laws have been at the core of European policy making, the Masters Course offers unique value concerning the EU’s central ambitions.

Students on this programme will become competent to work for public organizations and large multinational law firms.

Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students from all countries other than the 27 EU member states and the EEA-EFTA states: Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. Furthermore, you must comply with the 12 months rule: you must not be a resident nor have carried out your main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.

Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students who do not fulfil the category A criteria defined above, i.e. nationality requirement and 12 months rule.

For both categories please note:

You must study in two of the consortium partner countries.
The two countries must be different from the country in which you obtained your last university degree.
It is possible to be admitted to the Course, even though you are not awarded a scholarship. You will then have to cover EM Food of Life participatory costs. If you finance your study yourself, you are allowed to study in the country of your last university degree.

Non-EU Scholars

Every year, the EM Food of Life Masters Course awards a limited number of scholarships to third-country scholars/guest lecturers, who wish to spend time at one of the four European partner institutions giving lectures, supervising projects, doing research etc.

The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 33 fellowships for the 2011/2012 academic year. It proposes 10-month residencies in one of the 14 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Cambridge, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyons, Nantes, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar. The Programme builds on the strong reputation of the Institutes for Advanced Study for promoting the concentrated, self-directed work of excellent researchers within the stimulating environment of a multidisciplinary and international group of fellows.

EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in natural and exact sciences, if their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities. For each student the scholarship amounts to 21,000 Euro per academic year. This includes 10 monthly grants of 1,600 Euro and a fixed amount of 5,000 Euro for fees, travel expenses, relocation costs, etc. For courses lasting two years, the student receives double this amount, i.e. 42,000 Euro.

For non-EU scholars:

UNU Fellowships in MBA Programme for Developing Countries

The University of Geneva and The United Nations University (UNU) share a strong commitment to capacity development, especially aiming to enhance the capacity of individuals and institutions in developing countries. Therefore, in line with UNU’s capacity-development focus, the University of Geneva will offer UNU fellowships for international organizations MBA Programme.
UNU fellows will be mid-career professionals from developing countries (minimum 3 years relevant work experience in developing countries), who would be expected to apply and disseminate their newly acquired knowledge and skills in promoting the socio-economic development of their own and other developing countries.
