A PhD scholarship in applied digital image cytometry is available in the group of Associate Professor Dr Daniel Wüstner, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark. The position is to be filled by 15 October, 2010 or soon thereafter.

We are seeking a candidate interested in characterization of intracellular transport of proteins and lipids using quantitative fluorescence microscopy and computational image data analysis. The project aims at development and implementation of new algorithms for automated analysis of quantitative fluorescence imaging data to characterize protein-sterol interactions and transport in living cells.

The scholarship is available to students with a Master or equivalent academic degree within bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or related subjects. A suitable candidate could be a bioinformatician with good skills in Java- or MatLab-based image analysis, statistics and modelling of cellular processes and interest in experimental data generation. Alternatively, students with formal training in cell biology and strong interest in computational aspects of this field are welcome to apply. One to two PhD mobility scholarships at the Department of Physics and Chemistry are available as of 1 November 2010 or earlier.

The mobility scholarships may be sought by students, either with or without a previous Master's degree, who wish to obtain a PhD degree, who have not taken their exams at the University of Southern Denmark, and who have agreed on a PhD project with a supervisor employed at the Department of Physics and Chemistry. Part-financed scholarships are also available if the supervisor (or student) is able to co-finance the scholarship.

The PhD programme at the Faculty of Science can be completed as a three-year study with a previous Master’s degree or as a four-year study without a previous Master’s degree. Applicants without a relevant Master's degree must have passed a minimum of 240 ECTS-points (Bachelor’s degree plus one year (60 ECTS-points) of graduate study).

The Department of Physics and Chemistry employs 36 tenure researchers covering a wide scientific area from physics to chemistry within which the department has several cross-disciplinary activities.

Applications including project proposals within the above mentioned title formulated in cooperation with a supervisor from the department are welcome. The title Physics and Chemistry Complex systems is to be understood as areas of research where complexity demands an interdisciplinary approach.

Applications are now accepted for AstroMundus, a 2years international Master Course in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a partnership of 5 universities: University of Innsbruck (Austria), University of Padova and University of Rome "Tor Vergata" (Italy), University of Goettingen (Germany), and University of Belgrade (Serbia). The Master Course is funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus Mundus programme, 2nd Edition, Action 1.

The course is open to students of all nationalities. Admitted students will conduct their studies in at least 2 and up to 4 of the partner Universities and, upon successful completion of their studies, they will be awarded a Joint Master Degree by all universities where they studied during the Master Course. The course is held in the English language, however students will have the possibility to learn the language of the host countries through courses offered by the host universities. Full

The European Master in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis (AFEPA) aims at providing a high quality education in designing and assessing public policies targeted to the agricultural and food sector as well as the rural environment. the various and often complex socio-economic and environmental effects of these policies either in a functioning market economy as in the European Union or in economies in a development or transition phase. The European Master offers a two-year academic curriculum with integrated and advanced theoretical, methodological and empirical courses in economics and quantitative methods as well as in
