The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 33 fellowships for the 2011/2012 academic year. It proposes 10-month residencies in one of the 14 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Cambridge, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyons, Nantes, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar. The Programme builds on the strong reputation of the Institutes for Advanced Study for promoting the concentrated, self-directed work of excellent researchers within the stimulating environment of a multidisciplinary and international group of fellows.

EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in natural and exact sciences, if their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities. The diversity of the 14 participating IAS —which have agreed on a common selection procedure— offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Lifelong Learning has become a fundamental goal of recent education policies, often advocated as a way to achieve socioeconomic development and as a tool for promoting the ‘knowledge-based’ society.

The rationale of the Masters of Lifelong Learning is to increase the awareness of European Lifelong Learning policies in a regional European context as well as on a global scale. It aims to provide policy-makers and professionals with responsibility for managing, delivering or supporting Lifelong Learning with opportunities to develop their own analysis and practice in what is a constantly changing economic, social, technological and policy environment.

The growing significance of Lifelong Learning both in national and international policy results in the need to bring its implications under close and critical scrutiny. The Master of Lifelong Learning is to be considered a response to a strong need for conducting educational reform activities all over the world.

Learning outcomes:

Entry requirements:

The entry requirements for students enrolling on the Master of Lifelong Learning are:

A good first degree (humanities or social sciences) from a recognised institution of higher education.
A satisfactory level of spoken and written English: IELTS 7.0 and TOEFL 650 (written paper test).

For non-EU students:

For each student the scholarship amounts to 21,000 Euro per academic year. This includes 10 monthly grants of 1,600 Euro and a fixed amount of 5,000 Euro for fees, travel expenses, relocation costs, etc. For courses lasting two years, the student receives double this amount, i.e. 42,000 Euro.

For non-EU scholars:

UNU Fellowships in MBA Programme for Developing Countries

The University of Geneva and The United Nations University (UNU) share a strong commitment to capacity development, especially aiming to enhance the capacity of individuals and institutions in developing countries. Therefore, in line with UNU’s capacity-development focus, the University of Geneva will offer UNU fellowships for international organizations MBA Programme.
UNU fellows will be mid-career professionals from developing countries (minimum 3 years relevant work experience in developing countries), who would be expected to apply and disseminate their newly acquired knowledge and skills in promoting the socio-economic development of their own and other developing countries. The UNU fellowship covers full tuition, but Fellows need to fund their living expenses in Geneva throughout the academic part of the programme.

The EVIMalaR International PhD Programme on Biology and Pathology of the Malaria Parasite offers 11 PhD student fellowships

EVIMalaR is a collaborative research Network of Excellence, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the University of Glasgow. It currently engages 49 Principal Investigators from 34 institutions in Europe (29) and malaria endemic countries (5). The consortium conducts research on malaria parasites and their interactions with both mammalian hosts and mosquito vectors. EVIMalaR’s International PhD Programme aims to train talented young scientists from both North and South in malaria research, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. It thus offers a unique opportunity for students to become engaged in malaria research in world-leading malaria research institutions.

Training of the future EVIMalaR students is conducted through the virtual European Malaria Graduate School, which is organized and operated in collaboration with the EMBL and the Heidelberg University.

Applications are invited for studentships (funded for a maximum of 3.5 years) linked to collaborative research projects, each supervised by two or more principle investigators from different countries. Applicants should hold the necessary qualifications entitling them to undertake a PhD study in their host country, and should possess a high standard of written and spoken English.

The Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM) is the only International Graduate School funded by the German Excellence Initiative of the DFG at the University of Freiburg. Applicants must demonstrate that they will benefit from studying in Japan, and are required to produce a clear study plan with regard to their studies at Nagoya University
Applicants must not be previous recipients of JASSO scholarship
Applicants are not permitted to simultaneously apply for a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship for the same academic year
Applicants must, upon completion of their term of scholarship submit a study report to Nagoya University
